Biographical notes

Paolo BelgioiosoPaolo Belgioioso was born in S. Antonino di Susa (Turin), Italy. He graduated in Sculpture from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts of Turin in 1979 and took a second degree in Architecture in 1985 with the thesis: “The restoration of open air sculptures; causes of their deterioration; diagnosis and treatment”.

He currently holds a professorship at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts of Turin.

Since 1978 his work has been shown in Italian and international exhibitions. He has to his credit numerous acknowledgements and awards in both painting and sculpture. These include:

1st prize Extemporary Painting (Castelnuovo Don Bosco {Turin}, 1988);
Silver plate in Sculpture, “Arte ’90”, “Arte” magazine (Publisher: Mondadori);
Gold medal, XI Dante Biennial (Ravenna, 1994);
Judges’ Commendation: “Il sacro nella città secolare” (“The Sacred in the Secular City”), Cento (Ferrara), 1995; 2nd prize, International Competition “A Sanctuary for 2000″, San Gabriele (Teramo), 1997.

As a winner of national competitions he has created the following public sculptures:
Mosaics in the fourth Rosary Chapel of the Immaculate Mary of Nevegal
Sanctuary (Belluno); Stainless steel sculpture at the Caorle (Venice)
Harbour Office;
Bronze sculpture for the Carabinieri Barracks in Venaria Reale (Turin);
Travertine sculpture for the Carabinieri Barracks in Rose (Cosenza).

He has supervised the restoration works for several open air monuments and has acted as consultant advisor for other similar projects. He has also participated in various important international conferences, amongst which:

Trinity College, Dublin (Ireland) – International Conference on PublicSculpture, 1988;
Tbilisi (Georgia) – International Symposium “Modern World and the Art of Sculpture”, 1991; Rudkobing (Denmark) – International Symposium “Which Nature, Whose Art?”, 1993;
San Gabriele Isola del Gran Sasso (Teramo, Italy) – L’arte per il culto nel contesto post-conciliare” (“Religious art in the post-counciliatory context”), 1997.

In the field of publishing he edited the illustrations for the children’s book “L’ultimo circo”, by Sergio Pent – Morra Ed., Turin, 1997.
